Day 4

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Because I read this series last weekend and really enjoyed it:

Title: Mikey Way: Teen Detective
Author: [ profile] theficisalie
Rating: PG-13/T
Word Count: about 27,000 words total
Band(s): My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy
Pairing(s): Frank/Gerard, Mikey/Pete
Warning(s): Depiction of bullying, a lot of alcohol use
Author’s Summary: Mikey and Frank start a detective-solving gang. They drink all the coffee. Gerard is mad.
Why I recommend it: It's hilarious, pitch-perfect (re: stories about Teen Detectives solving everyday mysteries1), and...just...joyous, I guess? There is a MYSTERY QUESTION at the end of every chapter, followed by a solution where Mikey demonstrates his deductive skills. I would not call this a groundbreaking work of characterization or whatever, but, if you're like me, you don't always want a groundbreaking work of characterization or whatever. A lot of the time, what you want is a story about cute dumb slacker characters slacking off and being cute and dumb--and you will find that here. <3

1Which reminds me of Everyday Mysteries in the Summertime/Nightswimming and the longfic rec post I've been meaning to write. AAAGH NIGHTSWIMMING. I want to try reading it again, but I'm 95% certain I'll either cry or become very depressed. /tmi

Hey there! I am taking a breather from Bandom Big Bang, and I have more recs for you. I don't know who you are, and I don't know if these are what you're in the mood for, but there's not exactly a user group I can poll, so....

Bandom boasts a number of excellent fantasy AUs in an assortment of subgenres and involving a variety of subjects. Find some of them under the cuts.

Hi! I'm back posting in this journal, this time to recommend fic set in the universe of My Chemical Romance's 2010 album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. See below...

For now, I'm going to plow ahead and assume that you already know at least a little about the album and its universe. I will likely come back to edit this and add some background information.

Over the past year, I've read a lot of bandom fic. This is the first time I have posted about any of it. When I say "a lot," I mean a lot. There is so much out there, it's a little hard to navigate sometimes! I want to share my own way of navigating it. Thence, I will post fic recs. This is the first in a series.

Dear reader, would you be interested in some bandom fic recs following the theme of horror? Maybe? No? Well, they'll still be here if you change your mind. In no particular order, here we go...

Click through for recs! )

That's it for now! Stay tuned for more posts regarding vampire AUs, werewolf AUs, carnival and circus AUs, AUs where someone is a ghost and has romance with another character (a criterion that disqualified fic for inclusion in this rec post), Regency and other historical AUs, fantasy and supernatural AUs of various stripes, Killjoys 'verse, pirate AUs... There is so much fic, and so much of it is so good. Hooray!
