Bandom Themed Fic Rec Post #1 - Horror
Over the past year, I've read a lot of bandom fic. This is the first time I have posted about any of it. When I say "a lot," I mean a lot. There is so much out there, it's a little hard to navigate sometimes! I want to share my own way of navigating it. Thence, I will post fic recs. This is the first in a series.
Dear reader, would you be interested in some bandom fic recs following the theme of horror? Maybe? No? Well, they'll still be here if you change your mind. In no particular order, here we go...
Title: The Risen
Author:
adellyna
Rating: R
Word Count: ~22,000 words
Band(s): Ensemble - The Academy Is..., Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, etc.
Pairing(s): Jon/Spencer, Frank/Gerard, Tom/Butcher, platonic Pete/Patrick
Warning(s): Major character death, gore, violence, angst
Summary: Zombies on a cruise ship.
Why I recommend it: Zombies. On a cruise ship! Beyond that, though, this fic is well-written, funny, and emotionally engaging, with slow-building anxiety and a gradually-quickening pace that ratchets up beautifully into HORROR and ACTION plus quiet tense interludes.
Title: So Haunted
Author:

thesamefire
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~18,000 words
Band(s): My Chemical Romance
Pairing(s): Frank/Gerard
Warning(s): Graphic sex, drinking, alluded drug use, vomit, violence. Horror. See this post for an expanded, spoilery list of warnings.
Summary: Gerard is haunted.
Why I recommend it: It's true to the genre, subtly-until-it-isn't creepy and totally horrifying.
Title: In the Walls
Author:
thesamefire/
thesamefire
Rating: T (R)
Word Count: ~73,000 words
Band(s): My Chemical Romance
Pairing(s): gen
Warning(s): Horror/supernatural themes, drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, some violence/gore
Summary: From the author's summary: "When My Chemical Romance move into the Paramour, they get a lot more than they bargained for. All they want to do is write an epic album, but Mikey is falling apart and Gerard isn't sure what to do about it—or about the fact that they're trapped inside the house with no escape from the increasingly strange and terrible things that are happening to them."
Why I recommend it: I'm cheating--I have not actually read this. It looks good, though! I'll edit this post once I've read the fic and can provide a review.
Title: Break the Walls (And Kill Us All)
Author:
tabulaxrasa
Rating: M (R)
Word Count: ~27,000 words
Band(s): My Chemical Romance
Pairing(s): Frank/Gerard
Warning(s): Freaky ghost stuff, violence.
Summary: Frank owns an antique store. Gerard is his favorite customer. A ghost apparently wants to kill them.
Why I recommend it: Haunted house! Haunted antiques! Mystery-solving and cute romance! I'm a sucker for several of the major tropes in this work, and it's well-done and enjoyable to read. It is horror, though, so be prepared for that alongside the fluff.
Title: Inside Out
Author:
xaritomene,
xrysomou
Rating: M (R)
Word Count: ~13,000 words
Band(s): Cobra Starship, TAI
Pairing(s): William Beckett/Gabe Saporta
Warning(s): Past homophobic violence (not perpetrated by characters in story)
Summary: William's apartment is haunted. Gabe comes to his aid.
Why I recommend it: It's scary, sweet, and sad, and there is an interesting character/plot arc outside of the ghost mystery.
Title: Asleep (or dead)
Author:
sulwen
Rating: M
Word Count: ~10,000 words
Band(s): MCR
Pairing(s): gen
Warning(s): Major character death, graphic violence
Summary: Gerard dies, but he doesn't leave.
Why I recommend it: Because it broke my heart a little, and you might want to let it break yours (if you're into that kind of thing).
That's it for now! Stay tuned for more posts regarding vampire AUs, werewolf AUs, carnival and circus AUs, AUs where someone is a ghost and has romance with another character (a criterion that disqualified fic for inclusion in this rec post), Regency and other historical AUs, fantasy and supernatural AUs of various stripes, Killjoys 'verse, pirate AUs... There is so much fic, and so much of it is so good. Hooray!
